Gun Science!

This blog is 99.999% about guns (with a little wombat side action) and contains my internal debates, conclusions and reasons for gun... stuff... like cartridges, barrels, and spriiiings.
KISS Carbine Idea
If you haven’t heard of the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) carbine it is basically a bare bones AR15. Now the whole idea is that there are now batteries to die and no  moments where the user panics because there are two many gizmos and whatchamacallits on the rifle. Personally, I think it’s stupid. I’ve seen borderline retards handle a PEQ-15, PVS-14, and an ACOG on a M16A4  with two combat instructors screaming at them and they did it just fine.   Don’t sell yourself short about what you can do and setup your rifle with what you’re confident with, and don’t buy a Vietnam/IDF AR15 because you think a optic is to complex.

Is 45 ACP all that?

Well I haven’t shot anyone with it but my buddy got shot twice by it and he’s just fine. Out of respect I’m not going to take a pic of it but remember, bigger isn’t always better. (Sorry if this is random)

The Bad Ass MK12 Mod 1
That is the MK12 Mod 1 which is a bad rifle you might have seen in the movie Lone Survivor (Yeah, I cried at the end). This shit is an awesome rifle, it was orginally just supposed to be an upper that Tier 1 high speed kill ‘em all operators could slap on an M4A1 and shoot bitches from far away but the project got out of hand that the MK12 Mod 0 descended from heaven. It’s awesome because you can run a SPR in a squad and still share mags with all your buddies and in case some ass holes get close you can put those Magpul Dynamics moves to the test and kill bodies with ease. Now recently I’ve read a magazine about Daniel Defense making the new version of the MK12 with there bad ass Rail, CHF barrel, and there secret chamber. (I’m not shitting you the chamber is being kept a fucking secret.) Anyway this rifle is the shit and I want one. If you give a shit about my opinion, first of all thank you, second of all i would probably change out the buffer assembly with the Vltor A5, a one piece scope mount, and then that shit would be good to go. So in summary, it’s awesome, it’s cool, it works, I like it, you like it, what’s not to love?

Yeah I’m back after like… ever
Well what’s up fuckers? I’m back after a long ass absence I’m through with all my bullshit training for the USMC and I’m now sitting cool in Courthouse Bay, Camp Lejeune waiting to pick up training for Combat engineer school. Shitty thing is apparently we’re not aloud to keep weapons in the barracks so I have nothing to do unless I want to spend an ass load to go out in town and rent one. But I’ll try to post up more regularly. Ooorah!

My Glock 19 generation 4

I bought a Glock 19 because it is the jack of all trades when it comes to handguns. It’s only real competitor in my opinion is the M&P, which until S&W can fix the accuracy and trigger problems, sucks until you drop a few hundred in trigger jobs and a match barrel. The Glock 19 out of the box is a good gun but that’s never good enough is it? As you can see in the picture I swapped out the factory sights with Zev Tech fiber optic competition sights, race connecter, and the competition spring kit. I still have to under cut the trigger guard, replace the striker, and maybe a match barrel but it’s printing 2.5 inch groups at 25 yards so it’s good for the moment. There’s also an Inforce APL on it which is a pretty top notch moon beam and I highly recommend it.

The M16A4
This is the rifle I have carried, and even slept with, for the past 3 months and I hate it. Don’t get me wrong I love AR-15’s but this just isn’t it. The combination of the A2 stock and the RCO’s eye relief make it uncomfortable and awkward to get the proper sight picture and the addition of a flak jacket make it even worse (that’s probably why the Marine in the photo is holding it like that). The A4 also has a 12.0 inch quad rail and a heavier profile barrel than the previous A2 did. So you better believe this thing is extremely front heavy. As for accuracy recruits that had never even touched a gun before were easily hitting man sized targets at 500 yards so that’s not a problem. Reliability wise it sucked. But in it’s defense the magazines were made from some unheard of company in like 2005 and the rifles are leftovers from the Army and dragged through the crucible every cycle so they’re not exactly new. After using this I understand why the army switched to the M4A1.

So I’m a Marine now…

I got back from the island last night after my 13 week vacation. I had a great time there and I kind of want to be a drill instructor now, although a 120 hour work week seems a little rough. “Boot camp” is what you make of it , it can be one of the best times of your life or the worst, just keep a positive attitude. I’ll make a post about the M16A4 I was issued in a moment. If anyone has questions about what it was like feel free to ask me.

I’m going to stop posting momentarily because around this time tomorrow I will be at Parris Island pursuing my dream of becoming a United States Marine. I wish every one luck with your future plans and thank you for for any support.

Should you buy a 1911?
The 1911 platform, as you know, is very expensive and very old. Why would you want one? The trigger and lockup of the allow it (when properly made) to be incredibly accurate and fast, this is why it is such a preferred gun in competition and for custom gun shops. But the catch about them is that they require hand fitting, field maintenance, checking extractor tension and replacing springs every now and then. This means if you are the guy that likes to brag about running your Glock 12,000 rounds without cleaning, you shouldn’t buy a 1911, oh and go clean your damn gun. Assuming you are not that guy, a 1911 is for an experienced shooter and a person who isn’t afraid to strip it down and do a little work on it. When you get a 1911 running smooth there is no pistol more reliable and accurate.
